During the “Broken Before the Throne” prayer gathering held during the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina’s (BSCNC’s) Annual Meeting last November, Mike Pittman felt impressed of the Lord to devote an entire Sunday morning service to prayer.

A few weeks later, Pittman, who pastors Vertical Church, a multisite church with locations in Lumberton, Dublin and Pembroke, did just that.

“Although we’ve had several prayer emphases, we had never devoted an entire Sunday morning service to prayer,” Pittman said. “We were able to incorporate several resources from the prayer gathering and adapt them to our context.”

Now other pastors and ministry leaders looking for resources to incorporate into a special prayer service have a variety of items to choose from.

The BSCNC’s Office of Prayer for Revival and Spiritual Awakening along with the state convention’s Worship and Music Ministry have compiled resources used during the “Broken Before the Throne” prayer gathering and made them available to pastors and other ministry leaders for use in planning for their own special service and prayer gathering.

The resources are available at ncbaptist.org/prayergathering.

Resources include a complete order of service, along with PowerPoint slides, musical arrangements and much more. A complete video recording of the prayer gathering is also available on the webpage, as well as on the N.C. Baptist Vimeo page.

“The prayer service [at Annual Meeting] was based upon God’s invitation in Acts 3:19 to return to Him through genuine repentance, humility and brokenness so that He might pour out His mercy, forgiveness, restoration and refreshing upon His people and upon our nation,” said Chris Schofield, director of the BSCNC’s Office of Prayer. “It was truly a blessed time together in Christ.

“However, God’s clarion call to us as His people to return to Him and seek Him in repentance and prayer continues.”

During the prayer gathering at Annual Meeting, participants encouraged those in attendance to lead their congregations and communities in similar prayer gatherings across the state.
