The North Carolina Baptist Lay Witnessing Foundation is a witness training ministry working in cooperation with North Carolina Baptist Men and the Evangelism & Church Growth Team of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. The Baptist Lay Witnessing Foundation Inc. was established Sept. 16, 1958, with the full understanding and endorsement of the work by the General Board of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Since its inception, the Foundation has pledged to work fully with programs that have a similar responsibility in the Convention.
What we do
The primary purpose of the Foundation is to enable men, women, boys and girls to intentionally and effectively share their faith. The Bible teaches us the importance of sharing faith. For example, Acts 1:8, "But you shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. And you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all of Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest parts of the earth" (NASB).
Lay witnessing weekends usually begin Friday evening with dinner and worship. Saturday includes training, witnessing and sharing testimonies. The lay witness team often leads the Sunday morning worship service. The Foundation also offers weekend outreach blitz teams and lay pulpit supply.
Testimonies
Do lay witness weekends work? This is what Charles J. Tomlin, Fellowship Baptist Church in Hudson, had to say: The Lay Witness Revival was a wonderful success. What I believe is that it might also become a real turning point in my ministry here.
Now that the fire of evangelism has been caught by some of the people, we are going to move forward on training and the establishment of a visitation/ lay-witnessing program. I will be introducing three separate visitation ministries in the coming weeks: Evangelistic, Encouragement and Church Guest Visitation. This will help us to keep the energy level and excitement up. We are also planning to have a couple of the team members come to teach "Share Jesus Without Fear" as soon as their schedule permits. Thanks to the state Baptist convention for supporting this ministry which promotes the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus.
Fellowship Baptist experienced four professions of faith and three rededications/new commitments. During the Sunday night testimonies and Victory Celebration, 45 church members responded to witnessing/soul-winning outreach.
