Committee on Nominations Recommendation Process
North Carolina Baptists are encouraged to submit a recommendation to the Committee on Nominations for persons to serve on the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina's (BSCNC) Board of Directors, the boards of the Convention's agencies & institutions, and Convention Committees.
The committee researches and evaluates all the recommendations it receives. The Committee on Nominations then selects persons to fill the vacancies and votes to nominate them to the Convention at its annual meeting. Convention messengers to the annual meeting vote to elect and finalize the nominees as official board members or committee members.
The Baptist State Convention of North Carolina bylaws state that it is desirable for the committee to nominate at least 25 percent of the board members from churches with a resident membership of under 400. No church can have more than six members serving on various boards without justification from the committee to the Convention. For the Convention Board of Directors, only one person may serve at any given time from one church. The bylaws also encourage a representation of a variety of churches, professional and educational backgrounds, geographical areas, different age groups and both lay persons and ministers.
