Through the combined efforts of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and North Carolina Baptist Men, Camp Caraway’s original tract of land was purchased in 1961. Since then, the purchase of five small additional pieces of land brings the total Caraway property to nearly 1,100 acres.
Camp Caraway first began as a Royal Ambassador camp in 1963. The camp now exists as Camp Caraway for Boys and operates in the summer with 25 staff and more than 1,000 campers.
Caraway added the conference center in 1974 in order to provide North Carolina Baptists a place for meeting, conferencing, education and fellowship. The conference center operates all year and welcomes more than 15,000 guests every year.
Caraway now includes lodges, cabins, gyms, swimming facilities, lakes and hiking trails. Camp Caraway is seven miles west of Asheboro in the Uwharrie Mountains.
