From the earliest days of our country, the debate has ensued over the role of the church in persuading and confronting government. Without minimizing the importance of this debate, the Christian Life and Public Affairs Committee (CLPAC) accepts that Christians who are knowledgeable and passionate about the political arena are a valuable asset to their fellow Christians and church leaders.

It is with this understanding that the CLPAC seeks to provide resources and opportunities to educate and inform fellow North Carolina Baptists on important issues facing the state and nation. Toward that end, this site will serve as a resource for information on current concerns along with links to Web sites, blog posts, and articles of interest.  It is our hope that you may find it helpful as you seek to engage and have influence over the political process surrounding issues of importance to you.

NEWS UPDATE
In an effort to weigh in on the public debate over the value of teaching Abstinence Until Marriage in our public schools, the Christian Life and Public Affairs Committee recently sent a letter to all the principals and school superintendents across the state. This letter was in support of the continued use of abstinence curricula in our public schools, despite a change in the law that regulates sex education in North Carolina. Click here to download a copy of this letter.

The Healthy Youth Act, which was passed into law in 2009, modified the sex education law for North Carolina public schools. Many school districts are re-examining their sex education curricula for the 2010-2011 school year.  The Christian Life & Public Affairs Committee is looking for people willing to be advocates in their local school district.  If you are interested in becoming an advocate, read the how to guide below.
