Embrace retreat scheduled for Septemberby BSCNC Communications
During the weekend of September 5-6, 2014, Embrace Women’s Missions and Ministries and Women’s Evangelism and Discipleship (Embrace) will welcome Mary Jo Sharp as the main speaker for Be BOLD: A Women’s Prayer and Evangelism Retreat at LifeWay’s Ridgecrest Conference Center. Sharp, an assistant professor of apologetics at Houston Baptist University and Bible study author with LifeWay Christian Resources, grew up in the Pacific Northwest as an atheist and believed religion was for the weak-minded. However, after reading a Bible given to her by a high school coach, she came to faith in Christ at 20 years of age. Since then she has earned a master’s degree in Christian Apologetics and is the first female certified in apologetics’ instruction by the Southern Baptist Convention’s North American Mission Board.
In addition to Sharp’s teaching during plenary sessions, breakout sessions will provide hands-on teaching in the areas of sharing the gospel with neighbors; how to share one’s testimony within the larger picture of God’s story; spiritual warfare; impacting lostness through disciple-making; understanding the “nones” and how to reach them; and how to be discerning of messages in social media and culture among others. Breakout session leaders include Teresa Brown, Beth Harris, Phyllis Foy, Tatiana McNiel, Cathy Moffett, Fayeson Tilley, Brandie Upshaw, Merrie Johnson and Ashley Allen.
“There are so many opportunities the Lord has opened for women to reach our families and communities with the gospel of Jesus Christ,” noted Ashley Allen, consultant for Embrace. “Our hope and desire for this year’s retreat is for women to gain not only skills for sharing the gospel, but to also leave feeling confident in sharing and having a better understanding of the state of lostness in North Carolina.”
The retreat is open for any lady college-aged and older to attend. Registration is open. Rates include lodging and three meals and begin at $155.75. More information, including registration, can be found online at ncbaptist.org/wper or call 1-800-395-5102, ext. 5561, or email email@example.com.
